The Bandes desentaforades series collection was born with the aim of recovering from oblivion quality works of renowned Mallorcan composers who rest, hidden, in the archives of the various bands of the island. These are original handwritten works for music band or arrangements, which once were hits, but have been left in a corner, due to the lack of easy-to-read published materials adapted to the reality of today’s wind bands.

Both Artigues and Xamena collaborated on the Suite mallorquina núm. 1, which incorporates traditional Mallorcan melodies such as the balls dels cavallets de Felanitx, the Ball de Sant Joan Pelós, the Cant de la Sibil·la, and the bolero Rebosillo i gipó, composed by Xamena and awarded the 1943 Composition Prize of the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Palma.

It is known that Artigues revised the work in 1976, and in 2014 his son, Bartomeu Artigues Mesquida, undertook a second revision, adding the missing parts required for performance by a modern concert band.

The version now in your hands is the result of that endeavor, premiered by the Felanitx Concert Band on November 30, 2014, during the tribute organized by the Federació Balear de Bandes de Música in honor of Maestro Bartomeu Artigues Mestre.
